Dragons on land, underwater Biodiversity

Few places have the reputation of Komodo Island to be a remote and inspiring place. You dive in water provides one of the most enriching experiences underwater Indonesia. These small islands surrounded by arid and sandy beaches are lapped by the clear waters of the national park where you will see Komodo dragons in Beach or peering from the top of a rock.
A part of deep interest to be in a place like Komodo, you can also go over some of the best diving areas of Indonesia. The water is always calm, in fact the currents can be strong. But the abundance of pelagic animals, small and interesting bugs macro activity is greater than you could imagine, the dazzling colors and diversity, make diving here is truly legendary.

Reservation National Park Komodo Island offers all kinds of tropical diving imaginable, from warm waters, coral reefs, hundreds of reef fish, coral invertebrate packed up currents in deep cold waters, mountains, walls and pinnacles , patrolled by sharks, tuna and other large fish.

 

The variety of marine life makes diving Komodo in this part rival the world’s best diving destinations. It is the epicenter of marine biodiversity and will see hundreds of animals that you can not see elsewhere. Since mola molas, mantas, dolphins, sea eagles to pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, frog fish clowns, octopus blue spots, all surrounded by a spectacular range of colorful sponges, sea squirts, urochordates and corals.

Geologically, Komodo and Rinca are part of Flores, separated from Sumbawa to the west by the Sape Strait. In the middle of the Strait, the depth is about 300 meters. Due to the number of islands and shallow seas between Flores and Komodo west coast strong currents occur when the tide changes. Especially at high tide in the Pacific Ocean on the north, it is poured into the Indian Ocean in the south. Water bodies that rise from the depths of the seas bring nutrients and plankton to keep the waters of Komodo rich and well fed causing the perfect conditions to enjoy spectacular dives.

The island is also famous for the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard. A very agile predator scavenger that can reach 2.5 m in length and 125 kg in weight, it is estimated that there are around 1,100 copies in the island and about half live in the neighboring island of Rinca.

 

When diving in Komodo
As far as visibility is concerned the best time to dive is between November and January. The sea can be slightly moved in different areas, such as in the North during January to March and the South in July and August, though this is usually inconvenient for sailing schedules of vessels are met.
